GROUND GROOVES x UNDERCURRENT
INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED LEVEL
Experience a 2.5 day workshop with Ground Grooves working in collaboration wtih Undercurrent--a floorwork staple in Seattle. Our approaches are completementary, emphasizing, longevity, fluidity, and softness.
Ground Grooves is a floorwork approach and movement mindset that will heighten your physical sensitivity and soften your relationship with the floor. Utilizing choreographic sequencing, you will feel empowered to refine functional patterns and thoroughly embody conceptual floorwork ideas.
Undercurrent classes investigate the vigor, mechanics, and efficiency of floorwork with care, curiosity, and precision. While exploring fluid ways of moving low to the floor, practitioners use the architecture of their bodies to make challenging movement smooth, strategic, and strengthening. Undercurrent believes in the longevity of dance and aims for this method of floorwork to be as physically sustainable as it is innovative in its vocabulary. The practice supports movers of diverse backgrounds and skill sets in balancing and conditioning their bodies while adding versatility to their movement toolsets.
Designed for dancers with previous floorwork experience, this medium/fast-paced learning environment emphasizes movement quality and execution through longer sequences of movement.
Dancers can expect to gain:
-a thorough understanding of the logic and concepts behind the movements
-insight into anatomically sound movement patterning to prevent injury
-deeper control over momentum and speed
-an unlocked torso – learn how the spine affects your floorwork practice
-transitional clarity – how you make sense of getting from movement to movement (ie “flow!”)
-clarifying power – where it comes from and where it goes
-a healthier relationship to dance
-deepened relationships within community
Dancers can expect to experience:
-a relaxed environment where everyone can participate with joy and curiosity
-ample personalized guidance
-connection with other dancers in a non-judgmental learning space
-small group discussions on floorwork concepts and personal growth
-low-impact alternatives that build towards more challenging movements
-guided written self-reflection
